Summer School UGM-NKCU

Yogyakarta, August 26, 2024 – The Department of Archaeology, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Gadjah Mada University and National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Taiwan, have once again collaborated in organizing a Summer School program held from July 26 to August 19, 2024. In this program, Prof. Chung-Ching Shiung, Ph.D., along with Dr. Mahirta, M.A., once again served as archaeology instructors and researchers, guiding 10 student representatives from National Cheng Kung University in analyzing pottery findings from the excavation conducted in Tidore as part of the 2019 program.

This year’s Summer School program also included a series of cultural and knowledge exchange activities, such as learning traditional Balinese dance movements, batik-making techniques, and pottery-making. Additionally, the program featured visits to Hindu and Buddhist temple sites, including Borobudur and Prambanan temples.

The collaboration between National Cheng Kung University and the Department of Archaeology at FIB UGM in this Summer School program provides experience in analyzing archaeological finds and enriches students’ experiences through cultural and knowledge exchange. This collaborative program also involves international researchers to bring diverse perspectives and expand horizons in the field of archaeology. This aligns with SDG 17, “Partnerships for the Goals,” which focuses on strengthening global partnerships, and SDG 4, “Quality Education,” which promotes access to quality and sustainable education.
