Department of Archaeology Research Collaboration with Hiroshima University

The Department of Archaeology at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Gadjah Mada University, has established a collaboration with Hiroshima University, Japan, to conduct research at Borobudur Temple and its surrounding area. During a meeting held at the Department of Archaeology office on March 21, 2024, it was agreed that several studies would be conducted, including archaeological research on Borobudur Temple and social research on the communities around Borobudur related to the temple’s existence.

Present at the meeting were Dr. Naoku Ito from the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Hiroshima University, and Dr. Mahirta from the Archaeology Department at UGM, accompanied by Dr. Niken Wirasanti, M.Si., and Aditya Revianur, S.Hum., M.Hum., who specialize in Hindu-Buddhist archaeology.

Dr. Ita and Dr. Ito exchanged souvenirs.

This research on Borobudur will be conducted over two years, from 2024 to 2025. The collaboration meeting also agreed on the outcomes that must be produced jointly.
