On March 3, 2025, Haybah Shabira, a student in the Archaeology Program at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB) of Gadjah Mada University (UGM), received an award as an Outstanding Student. This prestigious award was presented at the Open Senate Meeting in conjunction with the Faculty of Cultural Sciences’ anniversary celebration. The event highlighted the importance of academic excellence and the role of students in contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in promoting basic literacy skills.

Haybah, who hails from Banda Aceh, has demonstrated exceptional academic and extracurricular achievements during her time at UGM. Some of her achievements include being named Best Speaker at the 2024 Regional Climate Debate in DIY, a semifinalist in ProAms 2023, a Breaking Adjudicator at IVED 2024, and second place in the National Debate Competition organized by IDN Times in 2024. These achievements reflect her commitment to developing critical thinking and communication skills, which are essential components of basic literacy.

In addition to pursuing academic achievements, Haybah is also actively involved in several student organizations. She is a member of the Archaeology Student Association (HIMA), Gadjah Mada Debating Society (GMDS), UGM Buddy Club, and Muslim Cultural Studies Family (KMIB) at FIB UGM. His participation in these organizations not only enhances his leadership skills but also fosters a sense of camaraderie and collaboration among his peers.

The Scientific Reasoning Unit (UPI-H) at FIB UGM plays a crucial role in supporting students like Haybah in their academic endeavors. UPI-H provides resources and training to enhance students’ research and analytical skills, which are essential for their success in both academic and professional settings. With a focus on foundational literacy skills, UPI-H aims to equip students with the tools needed to navigate complex information and contribute meaningfully to society.

Haybah Shabira received the award alongside other high-achieving individuals from the Faculty of Cultural Sciences at UGM, including alumni.

Students like Haybah are vital in promoting a culture of learning and critical inquiry, which is essential for addressing global challenges. Recognition of her achievements serves as an inspiration for other students to strive for excellence in their academic and extracurricular activities.

Haybah Shabira’s recognition as an Outstanding Student at FIB UGM celebrates her achievements and serves as a reminder of the importance of basic literacy skills in achieving the SDGs. Her dedication to academic excellence, community engagement, and social responsibility sets an extraordinary example for her peers and future generations.
