
Dozens of students from the Archaeology Program at the Faculty of Humanities, University of Gadjah Mada (UGM), participated in the celebration of World Heritage Day. The event took place on April 18, 2024, at Atmajaya University in Yogyakarta. In addition to students from the Archaeology Program at UGM, participants also included architecture students from Atmajaya University in Yogyakarta and public administration students from Tidar University in Magelang.
The celebration activities included workshops and exhibitions of creative works. During the event, the students learned from the managers of World Heritage sites, including Borobudur, Prambanan, and Sangiran, as well as other stakeholders. The role of local communities was emphasized in the management of challenging sites amid development. The theme for this event was “Empowering Youth for Sustainable Heritage Preservation.”
This event is part of the Borobudur Youth Engagement program organized by UNESCO Jakarta, supported by the National Federation of UNESCO Associations in Japan (NFUAJ). Another activity was held on March 8, 2024, with a visit to Borobudur Temple and its surrounding areas. [z]
