The Department of Archaeology, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FIB UGM) and National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Taiwan are collaborating to organize a summer program to be held from July 7, 2023 to August 7, 2023. Chung-Ching Shiung, Ph.D., an archaeology lecturer and researcher from National Cheng Kung University, is guiding his students in the summer program activities alongside Dr. Mahirta, M.A., with a focus on analyzing pottery and other excavation findings from the 2019 research conducted in Tidore.
During this Summer Program, visits were also made to several Hindu-Buddhist temple sites around Yogyakarta and to a pottery and batik production center in Bayat, Klaten.
The collaboration between Chengkung University and the Department of Archaeology at FIB UGM not only provides benefits in terms of analyzing artifact materials but also enriches students’ experiences through cultural and knowledge exchange. The involvement of international researchers brings different perspectives, broadening horizons in the field of archaeology. This aligns with SDG 17, “Partnerships for the Goals,” which focuses on strengthening global partnerships, and SDG 4, “Quality Education,” which promotes access to quality and sustainable education.
