On Tuesday, April 30, 2024, the Department of Archaeology, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, UGM, held a Technical Guidance Session on Preparing Articles for Submission to Scientific Journals in collaboration with the Indonesian Archaeologists Association (IAAI) Regional Branch of IAAI for the Special Region of Yogyakarta and Central Java Provinces. The technical workshop aimed to prepare the technical aspects of draft articles by undergraduate and graduate students, as well as participants from the IAAI, for submission to scientific journals. The agenda was divided into two sessions: Session 1: Structure of the Janus Journal Article (OJS submission process) facilitated by Adwidya Susila Yoga, S.Pd., and Session 2: Article Review (discussion of articles per author) facilitated by Dr. Daud Aris Tanudirjo, MA.
During the Article Review session, Dr. Daud Aris Tanudirjo, MA., as the facilitator of the activity, presented material on key considerations when writing and preparing articles before submission for publication in scientific journals. During the session, he emphasized that the quality of written work depends on mastery of the understanding of scientific article content, the ability to structure ideas, the proper formulation of problems, and the clear communication of objectives. The role of keywords in the structural components of scientific journals, such as the abstract, must also be considered, including sentence structure, a maximum limit of 200 words, and a concise yet comprehensive summary of the article’s main content.
The article review session also provided examples of scientific articles as discussion materials for analysis. “Actually, it would be more interesting and could spark curiosity if there are new elements, whether it’s an improvement or a development,” explained Dr. Daud Aris Tanudirjo, M.A..
